Performing Arts

The musical theater workshops expand upon your performance skills: singing, acting, and choreography. The focus here is on combining the breadth and depth of skills performers have, and therefore expanding interest and talent in musical theater.

YPIers focused on musical theater can expect to:

• Write cabaret-style scenes, dialogue, and monologues for an original script
• Collaborate with peers on group musical numbers
• Rehearse in one-on-one voice coaching sessions with master teachers on vocal techniques
• Learn, practice, and perform various styles of choreography in the search for your own style
• Dive deeply into the professional world of musicals that span the history of Broadway and beyond

Music artists interested in songwriting, production, and performance explore and expand their curiosity with workshop instruction that focuses on all sides of the music industry. No experience is necessary here, the focus on learning, expanding, and creating.

Campers will round out their YPI experience with portfolio pieces that include:

• The composition of an original song in the genre of your choice
• Arrangement of this song with classmates and professional musicians
• Hands-on experience running rehearsals with a full band
• Getting technical with ProTools in a studio environment
• Producing the song with electronic and acoustic instruments
• Rock-concert performance of your song in front of your peers at We Jazz!

Movement is the story of life. At YPI, our dancers work with a focus on storytelling, music, and movement as one. 

Our dancers have the opportunity to:

• Find further awareness and understanding of your chosen medium: the body and muscle systems
• Fully choreograph an original, narrative piece of your design
• Collaborate with your fellow dancers to create a group piece
• Interdisciplinary work with other artists (actors, musicians, and visual artists)
• Explore movement as story in meaningful, impactful ways that continue to influence and inform your work as a dancer
